Inspiring Environmental Stewards

2016 Read Green Festival

The 2016 Read Green Festival was incredibly inspirational! We celebrated and honored our 2016 Green Earth Book Award winners on Capitol Hill in Washington DC on October 27, 2016. Listening to the moving words by these amazing authors was fantastic. One author was so moved by what she’d already heard that she scrapped her prepared remarks so she could speak more directly from the heart – with tears in her eyes!

Thanks to Wendy Rieger, NBC4 news anchor for emceeing our event, and to Jim Foster, President of the Anacostia Watershed Society for being our keynote speaker!

During the Festival, our 2016 winning authors connected with over 2,000 students during visits to schools in Arlington, Chantilly, and Hamilton, Virginia, as well as Washington, DC. Plus, we donated several hundred books to the schools and students!

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Green Earth Book Awards happen – review panelists, board members, volunteers, schools, students, and community members.

Our winning authors are always delightful, and the author school visits fun and educational, and our Award Ceremony /Green Tie Reception inspiring. Throughout our Read Green Festivals, our authors visit five area schools and we donate books to the schools and students.  Check out our video highlighting our programs and winning authors!

Thank you!

The financial support from these sponsors helps us teach kids how to be responsible environmental stewards through using our award winning books.  We donate the books to schools across the nation and also work to get the authors into the classroom.

"I am honored to be the recipient of the Green Earth Book Award! And I appreciate all your efforts to make children aware of what they can and must do to protect our environment."
